Performing Arts Courses
A programme designed for students who already have an understanding of the rudiments of music and possess skills in performing on voice or instrument. The syllabus covers the study of a range of musical styles, knowledge of which will be assessed in an aural examination, using musical extracts. Candidates will also have to submit compositions as part of a coursework portfolio and give a practical performance, singing or playing works in contrasting styles at an appropriate level (grade 5 music examinations) on voice or instrument.

A2 Specification
MU4 - Performing (assessed by visiting examiner: 30 - 40%) MU5 - Composing (internally assessed: 30 - 40%) MU6 - Appraising (examination: 30 - 40%) Candidates to choose 2 units at 30% and 1 unit at 40%
Career Prospects
Successful completion of the programme gives access to universities or specialist music colleges and can be useful in Education, Theatre, Television, Media and Communication.
Entry Requirements
A minimum of 6 GCSEs at grade C or above, including Maths or English/Welsh. A good grade in GCSE music is normally required, as well as evidence of practical proficiency.
Assessment
A mixture of internally assessed, externally moderated and externally examined units.
