Performing Arts Courses

This course is offered at the Neath, Brecon and Newtown campuses. Each course has been designed to extend and deepen a specialist work-related focus across Dance, Acting, Musical Theatre and Performing Arts. The courses aim to prepare students for appropriate employment in the Performing Arts industry and it is suitable for those students who have decided they clearly wish to pursue a career in this field. Each course is a highly reflective of the competitive and demanding performance industry, and promises to be extremely rewarding for those who commit to the plentiful performance opportunities on offer. Whether a student chooses the Dance, Acting, Musical Theatre or Performing Arts option, the areas of study will nurture performance talent and skills, promoting a vocational training emphasis throughout the two years. Following an offer onto the course each student undergoes an induction programme where their skills are assessed on an individual basis across their chosen performance disciplines. At NPTC Group, the experienced lecturers are dedicated to providing the best vocational training for all young people who show enthusiasm, commitment and potential, and who want to pursue a lasting career in Performing Arts. Students will be given the opportunity to be involved a wide-range of training and performance activities, making use of our professional studios and fully equipped Performing Arts Centre. The course has strong links with professional organisations and promotes a positive relationship with industry professionals across the UK. BTEC students engage in workshop and performance opportunities with TAN Dance, National Youth Dance Wales, Trinity Laban, Ballet Cymru, LIFT Dance Company, Hedfan Youth Dance Theatre Company, Ovation Musical Theatre Company and the Schools Shakespeare Festival. This Level 3 course is the vocational equivalent to 3 A Levels and qualifies students for Degree courses at Higher Education institutions.

Career Prospects

Students who successfully complete the course may apply to study at specialist training schools and/or universities. Career opportunities include performance, television, media, teaching, arts administration, choreography, direction, community arts and research. Previous students of this course have gone on to train at Trinity Laban, Mountview, The Urdang Academy, London Studio Centre, The Northern School of Contemporary Dance, Trinity Camarthen, Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts, Bodyworks, Cardiff Metropolitan University, Roehampton, Middlesex, Bath Spa, Arts Educational Schools and the Royal Academy of Music

Entry Requirements

Students must possess one of the following: 6 GCSEs at grades A-C or above, to include Maths or English/Welsh. BTEC Level 2 Diploma in a related subject at Merit grade or above All students are required to take part in a induction programme consisting of audition workshops
