Music Students Triumph

NPTC Group’s A Level Music course has built an excellent reputation within the School of Creative, Visual and Performing Arts and produces a range of opportunities for all students who take the subject.  Led by Subject Leader for Music Carolyn Davies, the students demonstrate a wealth of musical talent as they prepare for both their A Level examinations and an educational visit to Disneyland Paris, which is fast becoming an annual departmental tradition. 

Carolyn Davies, who is responsible for many of the college’s musical triumphs, commented that;

“Music gives people the opportunity to be part of something special.  The students all enjoy learning together and pride themselves on the wealth of opportunities they have at college.  There is some real talent on the course and it’s great to see how music is actively contributing to the life of the department.”

Many students have already experienced much success this academic year.  After winning one of the college’s Cultural Scholarship Awards talented A Level Music student Joseph Cavalli-Price (pictured) currently plays piano as part of the Six Counties Youth Big Band and sings with the hugely popular Only Boys Aloud Academy, which is an impressive accolade for any young musician.  He says;

“College has helped me practise and improve during my time here.  I enjoy everything we do and I know it has helped me build a better understanding of music for my future.  I hope to begin auditioning for conservatoires next year in the hope of having a career in music.”

In addition to this other students are using their music talents outside their college studies. Lowri Thom plays clarinet for the National Youth Orchestra of Wales and joins her peers Miranda Lewis and Laura Eager in the National Youth Wind Orchestra of Wales and the Counties Youth Orchestra and Wind Band.

It is clear that NPTC’s Music students are a talented and dedicated group and we can all look forward to hearing more about the department’s ventures in the coming months.
