Hedfan Brings Contemporary Street Dance to Nidum Arts Centre

This week the Nidum Arts Centre has been the host for Neath Port Talbot’s most talented young dancers, collectively known as Hedfan Youth Dance Theatre Company, led by three professional dancers from the hugely successful Harnisch Lacey Dance.

Hedfan was established nearly six years ago following the success of its predecessor Motion X.  The company held open auditions for young people from the Neath Port Talbot area earlier this year and eleven lucky youngsters were selected to work with the dancers from Harnisch Lacey Dance, who specialise in the choreographic exploration of contemporary and street dance styles.

After a week of intensive rehearsals during the half term holidays the Hedfan dancers created an original dance work that will be performed, alongside Harnisch Lacey Dance at The Gwyn Hall in Neath on Wednesday 11th March.  Craig Coombs, dance lecturer at NPTC Group stated that;

“Hedfan is an important and exciting dance project for young people from the Neath Port Talbot area as it gives young dancers an opportunity to learn from professionals in a supportive and nurturing environment. “

The collaborative nature of Hedfan promotes a positive relationship with NPTC Group, NPT Council and local secondary schools, celebrating dance excellence within the community.  Jessica Davies, who currently studies at NPTC Group and is preparing for an audition at London Contemporary Dance School this month commented that;

“I have really enjoyed working with Hedfan and the professional dancers from Harnisch Lacey Dance this week.  I have been involved in this project before and it is one of the many dance opportunities that college has given me.  Studying dance at NPTC Group has been amazing and I have improved so much because of the opportunities I’ve had over the past three years.”

NPTC Group is looking forward to presenting Hedfan on the professional stage on 11th March, so make sure you purchase your tickets from http://www.nptartsandents.co.uk/en/event-15308
