AS/A Level Three Dimensional Design
Art and Design Courses
This course allows students to develop their knowledge, understanding, and skills in the designing and making of three dimensional outcomes. The focus will be on the process of design, through thorough investigation of a range of materials and processes. Students will develop skills in research, idea generation/development, 3D experimentation, creative making and evaluating. They will identify a problem or need and work through the design process in order to produce outcomes that are well designed and skilfully made.
AS Specification
The course is assignment based with no formal examination. The course structure is as follows: The AS represents the first year of a two year A level qualification but it can be studied separately. It consists of one unit: UNIT 1: Personal Creative Enquiry (40% of A level), internally assessed, externally moderated.
A2 Specification
The A level consists of the AS Unit 1 plus two additional units: UNIT 2: Personal Investigation (36% of A level), internally assessed, externally moderated. UNIT 3: Externally Set Assignment (24% of A level), internally assessed, externally moderated.
Career Prospects
Successful completion of the programme could lead to further study or a career in: + Product Design + Industrial Design + Furniture Design + Craft production + Jewellery Design + Theatre/Set Design + Interior Design + Exhibition Design + Architecture + Engineering
Entry Requirements
Six GCSEs, to include an Art & Design/Design & Technology related subject plus English/Maths. Students who follow other A Level courses in Graphic Communication, Textiles and Engineering would be particularly suited to this course
Assessment
All units are internally assessed and are moderated by the WJEC.
