Art and Design Courses

The Foundation Diploma in Art & Design is mainly a visual and practical programme, which allows students the time, support and enviroment to discover their individual strenghts. Delivered in an enthusiastic, friendly and supportive atmosphere students develop an individual approach with confidence. Students are encourgaed to explore fresh, exciting ideas to challenge and develop their existing skills and abilities. The programme is delivered through lessons, workshops, live projects, individual study, group discussions, group critiques, demonstrations (technical & practical) and lectures are underpinned by tutorial support and seminar presentations. During the programme students will be supported to successfully identify future directions and careers.

Career Prospects

After completion of the course students have the option of employment across a broad spectrum of Fine Art, Textiles, Fashion, Contempoary Applied Arts, Illustration, Photography, Graphic design, 3D Studies and more. Students will also be able to apply for HE courses at reputable universities across the UK.

Entry Requirements

Applicants need to be 18yrs and over. 2 AS levels or 1 A -level in an Art & Design related subject or a BTEC Extended Diploma in Art & Design. 5 GCES A* - C . Mature applicants (aged 21yrs and over) with few qulaifications are welcome to apply but must have a portfolio of work and a strong interest in the visual arts.

Course Units

The course is divided into three parts: Part One: This stage helps students to identify thier potential and prefered areas of specialist study. Students are encouraged to experiment with a variety of materials and methods. stage one also introduces contextual studies which is continued throughout parts two & three. Part Two: Students are encouraged to identify for further study a specific sector within the art and design industry and build a portfolio targeting that area. Part Three: Students complete a final major project which is presented for assessment and certfication in the form of a public exhibition.
